Pedro Pascal Clears the Air: Reed Richards Not Leading the Avengers

Pedro Pascal is setting the record straight about the future of his Marvel character, Reed Richards, also known as Mister Fantastic.

Despite speculation that the Fantastic Four leader might become the next head of the Avengers in the upcoming film Avengers: Doomsday, Pascal says fans shouldn’t jump to conclusions.

Rumors started circulating after Fantastic Four: First Steps director, Matt Shakman told Variety that casting Reed Richards was especially challenging due to the character’s layered arc.

"From a reclusive scientist to a devoted family man, and eventually to someone leading the Avengers. That final phrase was all fans needed to stir up online buzz about Reed’s possible MCU future.

However, in a recent interview with the Associated Press, Pascal downplayed the idea, calling the assumption “a little bit of a mislead.”

“It’s big news to me, that’s for one,” Pascal said.

I think Matt Shakman was doing an interview and when he was speaking about Reed… there is something that happens in the comics where he is sort of drawn in by the Avengers family, and asked to be put into a leadership position. That is something that happens in the comics. It isn’t necessarily something that my character’s future entails.

He added, “I am being honest in that. I am not even trying to avoid spoilers.”

Pascal also shared that he and Shakman have known each other since the early days of their careers, and described their collaboration on Fantastic Four as something that felt absolutely fated in the stars.

Interestingly, none of the cast went through traditional auditions. Instead, Shakman chose them based on meetings and a three-week rehearsal process designed to build family-like chemistry before filming began.

Pascal, who’s also known for The Mandalorian and The Last of Us, is expected to reprise his role alongside his Fantastic Four castmates in Avengers: Doomsday, but plot details remain tightly under wraps.

Fantastic Four is currently playing in cinemas worldwide.
