A vehicle plowed into a crowd of people waiting outside a nightclub on Santa Monica Boulevard in East Hollywood, Los Angeles, early Saturday morning, leaving 30 people injured, with seven in critical condition, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD).

The crash occurred around 2:00 a.m. local time near North Vermont Avenue, a spot known for its bustling nightlife. Authorities said the grey car struck a taco cart, a valet stand, and then slammed into a line of mostly female clubgoers.

The aftermath was described as chaotic, with debris scattered and several victims lying on the pavement.

LAFD Captain, Adam VanGerpen reported that one of the injured had a gunshot wound. Although the victim may be the driver, that detail has not been officially confirmed.

LAPD Sgt. Travis Ward said the driver was shot after the incident and rushed into surgery, delaying any immediate investigation into potential intoxication.

Eyewitnesses inside the club said they heard a loud bang followed by what they believed were gunshots. “People were unconscious, bleeding, just lying everywhere,” one witness said.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass called it a “heartbreaking tragedy,” adding that a full investigation is underway. The LAPD has yet to determine whether the crash was intentional or an accident caused by loss of control.

In total, 124 fire personnel responded to the scene. Of the 30 injured, seven are in critical condition, six are seriously injured, and several others declined treatment at the scene.
