A television anime adaptation of Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You (Japanese: Super no Ura de Yani Sū Futari) has officially been confirmed for a 2026 release. Square Enix made the announcement on Friday, accompanied by a commemorative illustration from the manga’s creator, Jinushi.

The story follows Sasaki, a weary 45-year-old office worker who finds brief comfort in smoking and in the smile of a local supermarket cashier, Yamada. One day, after missing Yamada's shift, Sasaki meets a mysterious woman named Tayama, who invites him to a hidden smoking area, unaware that she may be more familiar than he realizes.

The manga began as a Twitter comic in March 2022 before being serialized in Monthly Big Gangan from August that year. It has since gained acclaim, securing 8th place at the 16th Manga Taisho Awards and winning the 2022 Next Manga Award in the web category.

No details on the animation studio, cast, or staff have been released at this time.
