Nigeria’s Super Falcons are through to the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after a dramatic 2-1 victory over defending champions South Africa in Casablanca.
Rasheedat Ajibade opened the scoring just before half-time, converting a penalty after Bambanani Mbane handled a shot in the box. South Africa responded in the second half when Linda Motlhalo equalised from the spot following a foul by Osinachi Ohale.
With the game drifting towards extra time, Michelle Alozie’s hopeful cross in the 94th minute bounced into the net, catching South Africa’s defence off guard and sealing the win for Nigeria.
It was the first goal Nigeria had conceded all tournament, and their toughest test so far. But the nine-time champions held firm.
Banyana Banyana suffered injury setbacks, including a late blow to Gabriela Salgado, which left players in visible distress.
The Super Falcons will now face either Morocco or Ghana in Saturday’s final as they chase a record-extending 10th title under the rallying cry: Mission X.
